These images are for viewing
by friends and colleagues of the Victory Seed Company who are working on similar growing trials. Not intended for distribution to the general public.
This page represents the effort of
multiplying
samples sent to us to help recreate the
Mark
Futterman Bean Collection. This season we have located twenty five (25) pole-types and eight (8) bush-types.
After re-researching the issue of bean crossing, we decided to take the
conservative path and limit the number of varieties to maintain large
isolation distances. Here are links to the
2007 and 2008
grow out pages.

3.75 pounds of seed but it looks like the seed that I got from this
fellow is extremely crossed up. It appears that he is a bean
collector (in the 2007 SSE yearbook he exclusively lists beans - 42
of them). However, it appears that he is not being careful
with crossing. Interestingly, a quick web revealed that he is
a horticulture instructor with the Oregon State Ag Extension.
I emailed him and sent a photo on 2/14/07. |

Gus W. Tompkins of El Sobrante, California who had received
them from a Victory Gardening offer of the Oakland (CA) Tribune in
1941 and had been growing them ever since. Description: 9'+ vine,
white flower, 9-11" x .5" green bean, 7-8 white kidney seeds per
pod, healthy, stringless, productive, fairly straight, flat
creaseback pod with pronounced hook at end like Persian Slipper,
beans are smooth, tender and delicious. Mark stated, "The
finest bean I have yet grown." In reviewing his
garden log, he backed up this statement by growing it out nearly
every year. Harvested 5
pounds 4 ounces. |
